KooKoo are a professional ice hockey club based in Kouvola. The team was founded in 1965 when two local sports clubs merged. In its early years, KooKoo played in Finland’s lower leagues, gradually building a reputation as a competitive team while developing a loyal local fan base.
One of the club’s early highlights came in the 1986/87 season when KooKoo won the championship of I-divisioona, earning promotion to Finland’s top league, now known as Liiga. Although the team struggled to stay at that level for long, the achievement was an important moment in the club’s history and showed its ability and ambition to compete with stronger Finnish teams.
KooKoo experienced another major success in the 2013/14 season when it won the championship of Mestis, Finland's second tier. This victory helped the team secure a place in Liiga for the 2015/16 season, where they have played ever since. Since returning to the top league, KooKoo has continued to grow as a competitive club.
