- Brynäs have been excellent on both sides of the puck
- Storhamar's scoring issues continue to haunt them
- The Norwegians are not out of the Playoff picture
Collin Delia earned his first shutout of the campaign as he helped his club to their third win of the season with Brynäs IF taking down Swiss juggernauts ZSC Lions Zurich by a 2-0 final. But while the Swedes denied their opponents' every opportunity, Storhamar Hamar found themselves on the flip side of that same coin as fell to Ilves Tampere 3-0.
This was the second time the Norwegians were unable to find the net through 60 minutes of hockey - the first being their 3-0 loss to Eisbären Berlin back on Game Day 1 - and it indicates a struggle that has haunted Storhamar all season. Out of the 24 clubs in this year's campaign, the Norwegians are second-to-last in Goals For per game with 1.25. Add to this their middling stats on special teams and it's no wonder they've been unable to find success this season.
Nevertheless, Storhamar are not entirely out of the Playoff picture. They currently sit just two points out with Grenoble sitting in 16th place with five points. A win here could very well not only improve their chances of advancing but it could also provide the confidence boost this team needs.
On the backend, though, Brynäs have been incredible as the Swedes are among the elite in the defensive metrics as they are tied for first in Goals Against, only allowing 1.50, and are tied for first on the PK with 100%. Similarly, their play with the puck puts them in good company as they've managed to score an average of 3.00 goals per game. Thanks to their dynamism, the Swedes have enjoyed a successful season and will likely continue that trend pending a monumental breakdown against a team that can't seem to put the puck past the red line.
