- Odense have had trouble producing a consistent effort
- Salzburgs' best haven't been playing to their potential
- Both clubs enter the match-up having suffered consecutive losses
The Odense Bulldogs suffered their third-straight loss as KAC Klagenfurt fired six past the Danes' netminder in a 6-3 decision. Odense fought back to close the goal gap to one, but stumbled in the third and now sit near the bottom of the standings. Their Austrian challengers have also lost consecutive games, falling to KalPa Kuopio 3-2, but remain in the run for the Round of 16.
A pair of penalties by Benjamin Nissner and Nash Nienhuis gave KalPa their third and fourth powerplays of the period and while they were unable to break through David Kickert on previous attempts, they would not only find the equaliser, but also take the lead when they netted two within the span of 1:30. The Austrians awarded the Finns eight powerplays on the night and that undisciplined play was costly in the end.
As they prepare to face off against Odense, Salzburg need to address their offensive effort. While they've been receiving a healthy dose of defensive presence, their top players have yet to produce the results of yesteryear. Consequently, the Austrians sit in 22nd place with 2.25 Goals For per game.
For the Danes, each contest has started as an uphill climb as they've chased the lead against each of their competitors thus far. While Odense have been able to battle back on a couple of occasions, they've failed to establish their identity in the pan-European competition. Dating back to Game Day 2, the Danes have suffered multiple multi-goal decisions.
If they want to reverse that fate, then gaining the lead would be a great start. If they can score first and keep the momentum in their favour, they have a chance to steal this one against a Salzburg squad that's had trouble scoring this season.
