EV Zug and Kometa Brno were both shut out on Game Day 5. They will both now turn their attention to their head-to-head game on Wednesday, hoping it's not their last of this Champions Hockey League season. Zug enter the game with a slim one-point lead over Kometa – in a tight race involving several teams, Zug sit eighth with eight points and Kometa sit 13th with seven.
Each of these teams has scored 17 goals in their first five games, which ties them for fifth in total offence in the CHL. However, Kometa has been scored on five more times. Zug’s powerplay is ranked seventh-best in the CHL at 19.05% while Kometa’s is 13th at 15.79%. Zug also has a better PK than Kometa so far, ninth compared with 17th.
In a very balanced attack, Zug’s scoring lead is actually shared by four players with five points each: Dominik Kubalík, Tomáš Tatar, Grégory Hofmann and Andreas Wingerli. Kubalík leads the team with 22 shots on goal and seven blocked shots, and tops the whole CHL with 2.32 expected goals per game. Another Czech, defenceman David Sklenička, is tied for the CHL lead with 13 hits.
Šimon Stránský and Hynek Zohorna lead Kometa with six points each, followed closely by brother Tomáš Zohorna with five. Andrej Kollár leads the team with nine shots on goal and defenceman Jan Jurmý is tops in average ice time at 21:12.
