It was an intense battle in France as Grenoble hosted Lausanne HC for their second-to-last game of the Champions Hockey League Regular Season. With both teams desperate for crucial points, it was the French side who ultimately came out on top.
Grenoble took a two-goal lead in the opening period. The best chances came in the latter half of the frame. At 14:59, Valentin Grosssetete opened the scoring with a smart deflection of a shot from the blue line. Then, just 56 seconds before the intermission, Aurélien Dair broke down the right wing and fired a shot under the crossbar to double the lead.
The second period brought two goals, both for Lausanne. At 26:14, Benjamin Bougro scored on a breakaway moments after stepping out of the penalty box. Ahti Oksanen then tied the game midway through the period, making it 2-2 heading into the final frame.
The third period turned into a thriller. The Swiss visitors struck twice to take the lead, but Grenoble refused to give in and mounted a dramatic comeback. Pontus Englund started the rally, François Beauchemin levelled the score, and Christophe Boivin netted the game-winner at 57:13. The French side sealed the victory with two empty-net goals, capping off an incredible 7-4 triumph.
