Five was the magic number for Ilves Tampere, who entered the match-up having already qualified for the Round of 16, as they wreaked havoc in southeastern Czechia, defeating Kometa Brno by a final of 5-0. Five different players scored for the Finns, who remain perfect through five games. The Czechs, however, couldn't keep up the pace as they fell for their third game in a row.
A fortuitous bounce found the stick of Otto Latvala who slid it home to give his side a 1-0 edge late in opening period. Radek Kučeřík's shot from the point went wide and ricocheted off the back board where Iivari Heikkinen attempted to bank it in back door, the puck slid along the goal line, where Latvala seized the opportunity to put it past a helpless Jan Kavan.
Ilves then added to their lead courtesy of a tip in front at 21:20. 16-year-old defenceman Roni Kuukasjärvi registered his first point of the tournament when he fired the puck on net with Julius Hermonen able to redirect it into the net to give his team a two-goal cushion. The Finns' youth continued to showcase their talent as Jiko Laitinen lit the lamp from just inside the near circle to make it 3-0.
Then, in the third, Kometa made a goalie change, but it wouldn't amount to much as Radek Kučeřík managed to score against his old club when he wristed one from a sharp angle, past the blocker of Jan Ondráček. Kučeřík made a quick give-and-go pass to Eemil Laurell from just inside the neutral zone as the latter sauced a pass to the defenceman who skated down the far side unassailed before releasing it to secure his first of the season.
Kometa would go on to give up a fifth goal, this time to Lukas Svejkovsky, who one-timed the puck past the Czech netminder to help seal his club's fifth win and add to their point total.
