After earning a point in their Champions Hockey League debut in Klagenfurt on Thursday, the Bordeaux Boxers got their first win on Saturday. The 4-2 victory over the Graz99ers finished off a very successful Austrian road trip.

The home team opened the scoring just past the seven-minute mark. The puck was thrown at at the Bordeaux net and, following a goalmouth scramble, Jakob Lippitsch managed to put it in the net before Quentin Papillon was able to cover it.

But Bordeaux tied it and took the lead with two quick goals in the 17th minute. First it was Ulysse Tournier with a wrister from the high slot that found room inside the far post. Then just 23 seconds later, Loïc Farnier passed from down low and Julien Guillaume let go a shot from the top of the circle that found the net.

Graz finally tied it off the rush late in the middle frame. Following quick series of passes inside the blueline, Clayton Hanus unleashed a shot that beat Papillon on the near side.

The third period began at a back-and-forth pace, with chances at both ends, but as the minutes ticked away, the teams played more conservatively.

With just under eight minutes to play, Nico Feldner very nearly put Graz ahead but hit the crossbar. The play went back the other way and a high blast from the point by Kévin Dusseau went through a crowd and beat Maxime Lagacé to the far top corner.

Graz pushed hard for the equalizer in the last few minutes but Papillon closed the door and Yvan Mongo secured the win with an empty-net goal.
