- Berlin have now won three straight
- Salzburg's early faults were costly
- The Germans have scored four or more goals in two of their last three
Eisbären Berlin staved off a tenacious Red Bull Salzburg team as they registered their consecutive victory with a 4-3 win over the Austrians.
The Germans got off to a quick start when Liam Kirk sprung Gabriel Fontaine in on a partial breakaway on the penalty kill. Kirk chased after the puck along the far wall before feeding it to Fontaine who skated it in and wristed it past the glove of David Kickert.
Berlin then went on to compound their lead with two more goals minutes apart. Korbinian Geibel made it a 2-0 game when he leaned into a shot from just above the near circle that went far side, and then Kirk registered his second point of the night when he gathered the puck in the slot and rifled it into the net at 12:34.
Jean-Luc Foudy made it 4-0 in favour of the visitors when he scored immediately following a faceoff win from the low dot. He pounced on the loose puck and sent it sailing past Kickert for his first of the season.
But a clean breakout and a strong follow up by Jayden Lee gave Salzburg some life with seven minutes to play in the middle stanza. Jack LaFontaine made the initial pad save but the rebound went right to the stick of Lee who rocketed it in to get the hosts on the board.
Still down by three in the third, the Austrians continued to claw their way back into the game. This time is was Dennis Eamon Robertson wristing it short side over the blocker of the Berlin netminder. Mario Huber kept the comeback in view when he tallied his third of the season to cut the deficit to one goal with a little over seven minutes left in regulation.
As the clock wound down, Salzburg scrambled to find the equaliser but some undisciplined play gave Berlin a late powerplay that crushed any hopes of the hosts evening things as the Germans went on to gain more valuable points.
